For the Singer 400 slant series (401, 401A, 403, 403A and 404) Modification of the part is required. There is NO new tesnion assembly available for these models which doesn't require modification. This part is as close as it gets.
Modification: Shorten the back end (part that goes inside) of the stud and the release pin of the replacement assembly to get it to work on the 400 slants (401, 401A, 403, 403A, 404).
